Post newbie with few questions
hi there just a few questions. i finished my first sleep over and have severe apnea and am the proud user of a resmed cpap for about 10 days. i feel so much better and wonder if some of the
feeling is placebo like. will my titration show an improvement in so short of time? 100 episodes an hour and a low of 40 per cent scared the hell out of me. i will be having surgery in late october an am 56 years old so i am wondering if the age affects apnea or surgery success? thanks for any help

Post cpap machine question
forgot to ask is it is vital to place the machine below my head height. can it be placed on a side table at my heads height? also has anyone ever tried to record show tunes from a leaking nose piece?

Oh FogHorn, you are a hoot!  Welcome!

You'll have to call or email ResMed's customer service and ask about the CPAP placement that they recommend,.  But honestly, it probably doesn't matter much unless you use a humidifier so that any water which condenses in the hose goes back into the humidifier rather than your mask.

How soon you feel better is individual.  You will be fine going into surgery as healthy as you can be and using your CPAP will ensure that.  Before your surgery however, find out their policy regarding your CPAP use and make sure your anesthesiologist knows you have OSA.  Ask if you can bring your own CPAP for after surgery use.  If they let you do that, it will probably need to be cleared through the hospital's instrumentation department first.  I can't emphasize how important it is to work out your CPAP use with the hospital.  I just finished a five day stint on a telemetry floor last week after surgery 'cause they wouldn't let me use my own CPAP or mask.  Their mask leaked, defeating the purpose, screwing my O2 and BP all to heck and setting off the stupid alarm with every leaking breath I took.  Policy change is my middle name now.

It is great you are feeling it, you were pretty sick!

Vicki
