Have been through a sleep session without a mask and witha mask all night.  Do not know the results of second session.  Dr wanted me to wait a montht o come back, but I thought in teh interim he would palce me on a cpap to see how it went.  Am being treated for hypertension and atrail fibrillation, so hoping the cpap works out.  During mmy second sleep study, they ended up placing a mask on that covered both mouth and nose.  Are these types any more or less affecteive?

Thanks,

You should consult your doctor about the full face mask.  It has been my experience that when that mask is use on a person they tend be one who's mouth drops open when asleep.  Which causes the loss of air pressure in the airway.  Hense a not so good night's sleep.  A chin strap can also be used to prevent the mouth from dropping.

I wonder what the ratio is between men & women who have Sleep Apnea?

Tim,

Be a strong self advocate and tell the doctor you do not want to wait a month to get treated.  Since you have life threatening issues which are exacerbated by apnea, you might mention that along with the phrases, "withholding medical care" and "you'd better hope I don't have a heart attack before I'm treated".  Unless of course, the first sleep study showed you didn't have apnea.  What did they say?

I hate to do this, but it is what it takes sometimes to get these numbskulls to get a clue.

Vicki

My first study indicated mild to moderate SA.  I WILL call him this morning and see if he can get me started on a CPCP machine.

Thanks,
