Will you two just stop nit-picking at each other and leave this alone?  You are both being abusive, and it is uncalled for.  I don't care who started it.  Mom Virginia

Post Apologies
I apologize to everyone here.  I think this other individual also owes everyone here an apology as well, but I doubt if that will happen.  Out of respect to everyone else here, I will not respond to her anymore.  Kat

Thanks, Kat. It is appreciated. It takes two to start a flame war and at least two to continue it. I do think that Val's tongue in cheek remark was taken the wrong way and that it was just his/her way of trying to inject a little humor. Some times things just don't come across in print the way they do in person where you can the facial expression, etc. But, thanks for letting sleeping dogs lie.

Thank you, Val.

Kat, that was totally unnecessary.

Now let it be, both of you, please.

On another subject, am told that one of those Adapt SV machines is to be delivered here. Am certainly hoping it will help. The machine in use now, excellent as far as being comfortable and quiet, is the Resmed Co's  "Malibu" machine, like the town in California. Unf no matter what the setting, I wake up every morning with a nasty headache, which I equate with altitude sickness, just not getting enough O2 in the old atmosphere. Pressure up, pressure down, change the delta (the diff between the in and out pressures), change the rise times, monkey around with every possible setting....and still no diff. Sooo...this new machine, which is supposed to be the wizard model with all Cadillac and Rolls Royce parts inside of it, is hopefully anticipated... Otherise, it's goodby val, who is already on the old side. :(

Good luck w/the Adapt SV, Val. I understand there is a new "enhanced" Adapt SV; that the original Adapt SV didn't provide data whilst the new "enhanced" version does. I'm on the new VPAP Auto and doing well w/it. I "love" the new EasyBreathe technology!!!

Yes it's quite marvelous, you hardly know when the machine is working or you are working, it's almost possible to forget that you are just not breathing naturally. The original BiPap from Respironics Co. I have from 1989, each time the machine cycled, you would get such a jolt. I still have it now, in my closet. Presumably still works perfectly, as long as you don't mind being jolted. There was a special took, it's in the basement somewhere, needed to adjust the fan belt, the wrench had to bend around a corner to get to the adjustment nut. The belt would last maybe 6 months before stretching and needing to be replaced. This new machine I am really wanting so much to work ok, as an old person now the situation is not so good any more. I was thinking too about what the lady said about loosing weight, where is it, wait a minute

I'm so glad my weight loss has cured my apnea (while you no doubt are still a hosehead among other things) and I have no need for cpaps, machines, torturous head gear, uncaring dr's !@#!, and forums like these with ignorant posters.

...alas in my case am already thin, so there is "nowhere to go" On other hand, I read only 3% of obese people who lose weight will keep it of; and 0% of those who brag about it.

Yep, Val. I'm 5'4", 105 to 115 lbs since the age of 13, now 66 and 108 lbs. So much for my weight causing "my" apnea. Oh! I forgot: and a 13" neck too.

Post Weight Loss
In my case, I've lost 53 lbs (and counting) and my sleep apnea has all but disappeared.  I've also managed to keep it off for 2 years now through self-control, watching what I put in my mouth, and self-discipline., not to mention working my a** off  If I can manage that long, I can manage to control my weight the rest of my life now that I know what to do to keep it down.  Just thinking about how sweet it is not to sleep with that contraption on my face anymore (which didn't work anyway) or deal with uncaring drs. and unhelpful insurance companies is enough incentive for me to maintain the weight and get down to my goal weight, not to mention the nightmare of waking up night after night with apnea episodes that were difficult to treat.  I know weight loss doesn't work in every case, but in my case I was very fortunate.

Post Weight loss works for some of us
I also think I am right to feel proud of my accomplishment in losing that much weight, since we all know how hard it is to do so.

You've got THAT right, Kat! And bravo to you for managing to do it! It meant a whole new life style and the fortitude to stick w/it. That is NOT easy to do. Way too many can't do it. Kudos again!!!
