Post Self Diagnosed Sleep Apnea
I have many of the symptoms of sleep apnea and my wife has noticed cessation of breathing at various times.  I have hypertension easily fall asleep in the daytime (especially after eating) and am currently having difficulty "keeping on track" at work.  The hypertension has been around for 5-10 years, but is no longer controllable.  I have begun experiencing daytime sleepiness just in the last year or two.  Apparently I should get a sleep study done.  or am I just a little paranoid?

Hi Gil,

Take this test located in the left sidebar links.  It will give you a better idea of how to proceed.

Post Self Diagnosis
Before I was diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, my blood pressure was high even with 3 medications.  My primary care physician told me that studies have shown that people who don't get 7-8 hours of sleep each night have a very high tendancy toward high blood pressure, obesity and high cholesterol.  With sleep apnea, your body is not getting 7-8 hours of sleep.  I started CPAP 8 months ago and my blood pressure is now controlled and my weight and cholesterol are starting to go down.

See your doctor and tell him/her exactly what you posted here.  Hopefully, he/she will order a sleep study.

Good luck to you!
