Post Rainout and other questions
Other than the fact that rainout is annoying, is there any drawback to it (such as irritating the lungs, etc)?  I have my humidifier set on the highest setting, as per the instructions of my sleep clinic, and this causes the annoying wet mask.  The theory behind the humidifier setting is that it will keep me from having a sore throat, but so far it isn't working.  Not only do I have a sore throat, but am developing white crud on the tonsils now (I know, too much information...ewww!!!) and my asthma is acting up, which it rarely does.  So, what do I do now?  The sleep clinic told me to wait until next week and if I still have a sore throat to call them back and they will make an appointment with one of the docs for me.  So, any suggestions? Should I just tough it out with the humidifier set at 5 or should I give up until this illness passes? Oh, and to add to the fun, this is the titration (they're using the APAP to titrate me).  Will it mess up the titration because my throat is swelled?  It seems to me it would, but the sleep clinic didn't seem interested in discussing it, so I figure maybe I am overreacting?

Turn the heat down on your humidifier.  You need just enough water in the air to keep you moisturized, not to see if your lungs function as gills and how much crude you can grow on your tonsils.  I would think you would need a titration done when you have your normal throat physiology.  What was their reason for not titering you during an overnight study?

Vicki, I don't know why I didn't get a PSG and titration.  I had a limited sleep study and my titration is being done using an APAP.  Maybe it's more cost effective for my insurance or something.  It's annoying because I either go along with what they want or they don't cover anything. *shrug* I haven't even seen a sleep doctor yet.  I was referred by a walk in clinic doc at my medical center, was sent the appointment date, went there, had the limited study, didn't hear from them for weeks (though I went to medical records and got the progress notes that the doc made when he read the info from the study), was given the APAP to titrate my pressure, and at some point, once that is done (2-3 weeks or more), then I will see a doctor about this.  Sad
I had the humidifier set lower and while it felt wonderful to me, that is what started the sore throat.  I called my sleep clinic and they told me to try it higher (which would have made the setting 4), so I did.  It didn't help the situation, so they told me to turn it up the last notch and I did.  It seems to annoy my asthma though and I still feel dehydrated in the morning (I have to drink 3 glasses of water before I even feel human again and take the edge off the dehydration headache).  I can see that I am going to need to get at least a regular attended titration, though I'm going to see if I can convince them to do a PSG for me too.
