Swift Nasal Pillow - Nostril Irritation

Postby nobody102 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:12 am

I switched from a FF mask to the resmed nasal pillow. Had it for a week now, and still trying to get the correct fit. I actually slept the whole night
with the dang thing on! However, in the morning, my left nostril is killing - feels like someone rubbed it with sandpaper. The next night, putting the pillow on was killing on that area. I tried putting some Ayr gel and vaseline on my nose, but that did not help. I then changed from the medium pillow to the small,
and that seemed to be better, but next morning my nostils are still really hurting - right around the very outside edge (ont the side with the part between your two nostrils - whatever that is called...). Maybe my mask is too tight? If I loosen it, then it leaks. I also have a mustache. How do you stop the irritation? This shouldn't be painful.

Try a very thin coat of chapstick, or even better a liberal amout of Ayr Gel. It will help with the soreness until the nares toughen up.

Are your nasal pillow attached together? If so try cutting them apart so they can adjust independently of each other.

Are you using alot of ayr gel, you need to apply liberally. I found in the beginning chapstick worked better, I could loosen the mask just a bit and still get a good seal. Don't use both at the same time.

To heal your sore nose in a hurry, try an over-the-counter cortisone cream. Apply a very small amount during the day for a day or two - that should be long enough. This is not for long term use.

I had the exact thing happen to me also. I took the advice of the folks here and it went away after about 3 days.
