Post How Burdensome Is a Full Mask?
Hi, it has been suggested to me that I need a full mask because I am breathing much air out of my mouth.

Question, how much more difficult is a full mask compared to just a "nose mask".

Thanks,

Unfortunately, the answer is, it depends...

Some folks do really well on full face masks, but a lot of that is determined by pressure.  If you have a high pressure setting, you will more than likely have problems with full face masks. (there are exceptions, but generally that is the case)

You do have an option of a nose mask and a chin strap.  I did that for a while and found that I "learned" to keep my mouth shut.  Some folks don't, and even resort to taping their lips nightly! (Ask Rested Gal, she is our duct tape specialist Wink )

Personally I had trouble with a full face, and I was using the one that most folks consider one of the better ones, the Ultra Mirage.  I had so much trouble that I ended up switching to a nasal mask, and no longer use a full face mask at all.

I suggest trying a chin strap and a nasal mask and see how it works for you.  (there are a number of masks that are generally suggested as better, but each person is different, if you have the oportunity to try a number of them, do so, as the mask that works for me might not work for you.)

Let us know how it goes!

Hi Ear!!

I've spent the last 14 months going through full face masks from Darth Vardar to Ultra Mirage and finally was fitted during my sleep study last night with one new to the market.  It is a Fisher Paykel Flexifitâ„¢ 431 and has several positive features not seen in the all of the masks I have tried.  The most important one being that it holds my higher pressure and doesn't honk all night waking me up.  It was very comfortable too and the exhaust port is designed so that it is quiet and doesn't "blow air on your partner", how thoughtful!  Yeah, I finally really slept  Applause !!
