Post Question about Sleep, but not about Apnea
Hi All,

I've got a question for you all and maybe someone can give me a reason why this happens. This is not related to Apnea in any way, but it does have something to do with sleep.

Do any of you have one of those nights where, when you fall asleep, it feels like you slept for hours but in reality, only 30 minutes to an hour has passed by? Has anyone had the opposite of this, where you sleep for what seems like 30 minutes but in actuality, 8 hours has gone by? Does anyone know why this happens? I know that this has happened to me, albeit very rarely. I'm just curious about this. Thanks!

Sleep has been found to be NOT the period of body shut-down like most people think, but rather it is an extremely complex time that the body uses to refresh itself. And although advances have been made in sleep medicine, I'm not sure anybody has yet to find a answer for why the body reacts to some of the phenomenon of sleep the way that it does.

To answer your questions: Yes, in the past few months I have had numerous periods where I thought that I had slept all night only to wake up and see that just an hour had past. However, it does have to do with my apnea. Hopefully, those days will soon be over.

The answer to your second question is also yes but that was a long time ago. It usually happened when I was younger and dead tired.

When I was considerably younger, like in my 20s & 30s and even now in my 60s, IF I can sleep between 6 AM and 8:30 AM I wake up feeling refreshed and like I've had a good night's sleep even if that is the ONLY sleep I got all night. Conversely, I can get 6 to 8 hours or so of sleep but if I wake before 8:30 AM I am much less ambitious and even tired all day.

At my first two sleep studies 8 years or so ago I was sleeping so good finally but at 7 AM they woke me up and wouldn't let me sleep any longer. This despite even their equipment telling them I was finally sleeping GOOD and peacefully w/no "events" after 6 AM. I figured they just didn't like my not having any more "events".   Twisted Evil
