Numbness/tingling in arm while sleeping?

Postby EndlesslyTired » Wed Apr 26, 2006 12:30 am

I've been reading around the forums, and wanted to say you guys are all great and I'm learning as much about this before I see the doctor so I know what to ask and what to expect.

But I have a question. Can sleep apnea cause numbness and tingling in the arm/hand while sleeping? Someone told me I may have carpal tunnel, but there is no pain, numbness or tingling at all while typing or using the computer -- just when I wake up in the middle of the night. I suspect I have sleep apnea, but haven't seen the doctor yet (and obviously will mention this when I get in there). I'd suspect my old mattress, but it also happens when I fall asleep on the couch.

I also experience this-but in my case it is due to my left arm being bent up and placed underneath my pillow. Are you sleeping in some strange position similar to me and your circulation is being affected?

I also experience numbness in my hands & lower arm since starting cpap therapy. My guess is it is from laying on my back most of the night because of mask leakage problems when I turn to my side. Some mornings when I awaken I have trouble turning off my cpap due to the numbness.

I fall asleep on my right side, and always wake up on my back (even if I fell asleep on the couch and my back is against the back). It's the left side that has been having the numbness and tingling, usually in the hand.

I think it could. if sleep apnea deprives your brain of oxygen, who's to say it doesn't cause other areas of the body to loose oxygen? Sometimes i even wake up with tingling in my head. Which is weird. I should also mention that i have not been diagnosed with apnea.
