April 18, 2006 is the 25th anniversary of the publication in the British medical journal The Lancet of a study by Colin E. Sullivan, et. al. entitled "Reversal of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea by Continuous Postitive Airway Pressure applied through the Nares."
From the summary... "Continuous positive airway pressure applied in this manner provides a pneumatic splint for the nasopharyngeal airway and is a safe, simple treatment for the obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome." (Emphasis added)
This treatment offered an alternative to the surgical option of a trachestomy and what was only recently developed the UPPP.
