Hey All!
Everyone's been a little quiet lately. I hope that's a sign that we are all hitting the gym and losing lots of weight. Me- I have been a little naughty-una mala pequena! I went out for Mexican food last night, but did a veggie sub for lunch. I am up 2 pounds from last week but am still smaller than where I was three months ago.
Lori-can you feel the lapband? I am wondering if that would work for my husband. He has went from 195-250 in only three years. How overweight do you have to be to get a lapband-is there a certain criteria?

Keep up the hard work ya'll
Katherine

Hey Katherine,

Naughty me too!  Have not lost any weight, but I haven't gained any either!  Absolutely no exercise since school started. I am just so tired all the time. I have an appt in Columbus in October. Hopefully that dr. will get me some help.

My sleep apnea is so bad now, that it is causing me to be so unorganized at school. I moved buildings from 2nd to 4th grade, but I could still use a week alone in my class to get things straight. I stay at school every night until 5:00 or even 6:00. I just can't get caught up.

So still the same for me. I don't think I will get my weight under control until I get the sleep apnea under control.

Hey did anyone hear about the new FDA research?  They think ADD medication might be successfully used for weight loss. Makes sense! Kids that are on it sure lose weight!   Wish I could get a dr. to prescribe some for me!

Later, Peke

Yeah, a lot of ADD meds act like appetite supressants, which certainly helps with weight loss. The first ADD med the doc put me on, Strattera, was like that for me. I had to make myself eat, I was never hungry. Unfortunately there were so many less desirable side effects that I had to switch to something else (Adderall XR). I didn't have much of an appetite for the first couple of months on it, but that effect eventually wore off. It was nice while it lasted though :)

I've been treading water, up a couple pounds and down a couple of pounds. Checked in at 173 yesterday morning. I'm trying to get to 159 by the end of the year, and then from there lose the last 10 lbs and get to my target weight of 149.

Katherine, is there anything you can identify as to why your husband has gained weight so fast? How old is he?  I know for myself, I had two things happen that were major contributors in going from 165 to about 215 in 3 years, and eventually creeping up to 240ish - first was job related, I went from having jobs where I was active and on my feet all day to having a 2nd shift desk job where I was sat at a computer from 2-11pm every day. In turn, I stayed up until 2-3am every night, and then slept until noon (before kids) and then repeated the process. My life got very sedentary very fast.  The other thing was that I hit my mid-20s and my metabolism was no longer what it was when I was an active teenager. Combining a sedentary lifestyle with a slowing metabolism really did a number on me. I goofed around with various diets, but finally had to accept that I had to fix those two problems to start losing weight. Even though it has taken over 2 years to go from 240 to my current weight, I fixed the sedentary problem and got much better (over time) at controlling my portion sizes. But it has been been a long process, and certainly not an easy one.

I was wandering around in Lane Bryant one day and decided to try some clothes on, just for giggles if nothing else. It seems I still have the mindset that I am bigger than I actually am, being that some of the things I had tried on in my so-called "present" size were loose (or maybe that is the way the manufacturer made them!)...and so I had to go from 22/24 to 18/20!

So to celebrate, I got some new, sexy lingerie (tossing out the now too-big, "old lady" undies) along with some jeans and a nice top or two.

Who would have thought that six months and 96 pounds ago when I was barely squeezing into a 30/32 pre-op that I would be buying 18/20's before the holidays were even on the horizon?

PS: You guys have to try Spanx! it not only smooths everything out under the clothes, but also is very comfortable!

I can't feel my band at all, except maybe if I bump my port once in awhile. The criteria to get the band varies; usually if one has a BMI of over 35 and/or co-morbidies, such as diabetes, cardiac problems, sleep apnea, etc. There is a long process involved, such as routine tests, psych evaluation, nutrition consult, etc., as well as getting support from the primary physician and a six month diet history documented. It really depends on which insurance one has and what it requires to cover lap band surgery.

Thanks Lori,
That makes sense. I was under the impression that  insurance would never cover surigical lapband.  Kudos to you. Before long you'll be a size 6 :)

Have a good week!
Katherine

I could have written any of these with little change-
I've yo-yo ed up and down all my life.  In 2001  I joined Weight Watchers AGAIN and managed to lose 95 1/2 pounds over three years.

Then I was diagnosed with Parkinson's DIsease and put on the drug Mirapex.  It cocntrolled my PD tremor and stiffness pretty well.  But I started gaining weight and couldn't get my eating under control.  THEN - along comes DEPRESSION with anxiety and panic attacks - and more weight gain. I gained back over 100 pounds.

Recently I found that the medication I've been taking Mirapex can cause compulsive behavior such as gamblig, shopping and -surprise -  EATING.  I'm working with my Neuro to work on the weight but all the drugs that work are in the same class and same sideeffects,  We cut my dose and syptoms come back.

New Doctor - I'm finally on Medicare - haven't had insurance for 6 years
After a thorough history, REALLY thorough, first thing she did was refer me to a sleep specialist.  I have my study next month and based on what I've read my guess is that the test will show that I do indeed have sleep apnea.  I know that it won't solve all my health issues but I could use any help.

In addition I suffer from myofascial pain syndrome which causes me to have intense pain - mainly in   my back.  This limits my ability to do physical exercise.

Reading all your posts has really been  helpful - knowing others are dealing with the same issues.

God Bless You ALL

Hello to all!  I haven't been here in a while. How is everyone doing on the weight loss front?

I had my sleep study last week - it showed me to have moderate apnea.  Evidently I didn't sleep long enough to do the split study so I'm going back tonight to do the second part.  I was really surprised that I didn't sleep better at the first one - I've not had trouble falling asleep in the past.  I hope I do better tonight.  I got up early this morning and haven't napped at all.

Wish me luck........

Lori, Katherine, and Mrs. Uncle Bill,

How is the weight loss going?  I lost two more pounds - total loss of 7!  Today I saw some chocolate covered peanuts, and yes, I ate them!

Why did I do that?  That makes me crazy when I sabotage my own weight loss efforts!

Will,

How much more have you lost lately?  Will you make your goal by year's end?  Congrats for losing so much weight!

Peke

Hi, I'd like to join the cpappers but, of course, am not quite bright enough computerwise to know how to PM someone. Putting the cursor on your name doesn't seem to do it. Or maybe this section of the forum is no longer active? Thanks for any help.
