Post Lexapro users....
I switched to Lexapro this past June, I had previously taken Paxil, Zoloft and others.  Since June I have gained 20 pounds - I had thought it was due to consuming ice cream over the summer but I stopped eating ice cream like 4 weeks ago and I gained another 6.

Is this typical of Lexapro?

I cant say the Lexapro is really helping me all that much so if it is making me pile on pounds to the heck with it.

Talk to your doctor.

Post yes, maybe, no -- pick one
As a doctor who prescribes and likes Lexapro because of minimal drug drug interactions and weight gain, I would say that I would hope it isn't that medication.  However, any medication can cause any side effect in any one person.  Lexapro has a small percent risk of causing weight gain in someone taking it, but if you are that someone, and you are gaining weight from it, then the risk to you is 100%.

I'd talk to your doctor about other options.  Why did you switch off the other meds?  lack of effect? if I may ask?

Post Lack of effect for sure
Morbidly depressed and a nervous wreck most of the time.  Just switched to Cymbalta, took it for the first time a few hours ago and feel like I am going to puke!

Post Sorry for the delayed response
Hopefully that will go away quickly... and by the time you get this it is already gone -- the nausea, that is.  I hope you are working with a psychiatrist that you trust if you are truly morbidly depressed and the meds you have tried so far haven't done the trick.  Good luck, and be persistent about telling your doc what you need/want to be different.  Definitely be the squeaky wheel.  The Cymbalta is promoted as having a better weight gain profile than the SSRI medications(Lexapro and others in the same class).  I hope you feel better soon.
