I have mild - moderate obstructive sleep apnea and have tried using a CPAP machine. I had many problems with it, so I went to a qualified sleep dentist and got my tongue retaining device 2 weeks ago. So far, I have not been able to keep the device in my mouth for very long and have not been able to fall asleep with it in. Initially, I had trouble keeping it in at all because it triggered my gag reflex. I have gotten over that problem, but I can only keep it in for a few minutes due to saliva build-up and tongue burning sensation. I'm just wondering if I will ever be able to get used to this and have no idea if most people are able to use this device right away or take weeks to get used to it. Any insight or tips on how to deal with these problems would be appreciated.
