Post My Sleep Apnea Test Done Last Nite
Hello All!  I had my sleep test done last evening.  Before the test began, the technician mentioned there may be a possibility she would wake me after a few hours sleep to put a mask on me.  From her explanation, I understood that if I stopped breathing so many times with a certain timeframe, the would see how I responded with a mask on.  Since the mask was put on me after 3-4 hrs of sleeping, I'm sensing I'm a big time sleep apnea - er!   Laughing
Has anyone experience this and how soon did your doctor notify you once he saw your results?

I slept so little the first time I had to go back for the titration. One piece of advice. Don't wait on them to call you. Take a proactive stand and do the calling. It took me from Oct. 8 to Nov. 4 to get both studies done, and I'm finally going to pick up my machine today. I finally started calling since nothing was happening. Well, Dr. office dropped the ball and didn't order anything. I would probably still be waiting into next year, but my insurance will cover 100% and I've already met my deductible and it starts over Jan. 1, so that was a big incentive for me!

Hi Bratgirl,

You had what's known as a 'split study'. Half night was a polysomnogram (sleep test) and half was a titration study (to set the correct pressure).

Early indication is that you have OSA.

As for results you need to chase them up. Start with your sleep doctor and remember the squeekiest wheel gets the most oil. that is assuming you are attending a sleep doctor. If your GP is dealing with it, chase him/her for them.

Best of luck.

Daniel.

For my sleep study, I went to a reputable doctor. Mine was a split-night, also. In the morning, the doc came to my room with the results, and a prescription for a CPAP, mask, etc. I got a copy of the results before I left the center.

My only problem was finding a DME that would accept my insurance. I live in Montgomery, AL and the doc is in Birmingham, AL (about 80 miles apart).

Finally found one, then had insurance company problems. I had my test in Dec of 2004 and had't met the deductible yet. So, I waited until early Jan of 2005 to get my equipment.

Cannot say anthing bad about the doc or the tech.

All in all, it was an "enjoyable" time, if one can call CPAP therapy "enjoyable"  d'oh!

I also had a split study.  After only 93 minutes of sleep and 198 obstructive apneas (you read right, more than two a minute) the tech woke me up and began the titration.  In the morning I was told it would take 2-3 weeks for my doc to get the results and then another 2-3 weeks to get the cpap I needed.  That seemed like an eternity to me.  So, I called after 10 days and the sleep center and doc both had the results.  I insisted that they fax the necessary paper work between them and get my cpap ordered.  They got the order to the pharmacy that day.  When the pharmacy/medical supplier called me they said they couldn't get a DME out to my house for three weeks.  I told them that was unacceptable and threatened to have the perscription sent to one of their competitors.  They called me back an hour later to say they would meet me at my house at noon, if I could be there.  Needless to say I made sure I was there.  So, through persistence (or being a pain in the butt) I was able to get my machine 10 days after my study.  Be persistent, don't take no for an answer.  Good luck.

I agree.  The squeeky wheel gets the grease.  I had my first sleep study done on July 27 and the titration done on September 9th and didn't get my machine until October 28th.  If I had known, I would have definately been on the phone and making someone get busy.  I can't tell you how much better you'll feel once you get used to it.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
If you don't take care of you, no one else will.
Hang in there.
