Are you talking about fundoplocation?  You may want to go to the forums at www.reflux.org -- the Pediatric & Adolescent Gastro-Esophageal Reflux site -- if you haven't already been there.  Several of the regular contributors have children who have had that, and other, surgeries.

I'm assuming you're talking about the nissen fundoplication...??  We were told that it would take approximately 4 hours, but it depends greatly on how it's done.  Fundo's are not reversible.  If this is what the doctors decide that your child needs, make sure that every other option has been ruled out before taking that step.  It can be helpful but it can also create even more problems....  We did a surgical consult a few weeks ago and the surgeon was able to tell us how long the procedure would take based on the needs of our child.

My son had a g tube for a year and a half and just recently had a gj tube placed (in the hopes of avoiding the same procedure you mentioned earlier).  The g-tube placement only took a matter of minutes (less than 30) and he was admitted for less than 48 hours.  Recovery time is minimal for g-tube placement.  However, working up to full feeds does take time.  Most surgeons suggest starting with bolus feeds, but those don't work well for very many children.  Continuous is often best at first (and then work up to bolus if needed/desired).  I would recommend the AMT mini one button (ours was a capsule, non balloon).  It's very low profile and was rated to last 12 months (unlike others that have to be changed every 3 or so).

That depends on the surgeon/child.  We were told that our ds would need to be there for 3 days, but he's pretty complex....  I would wait and see what they say during the surgical consult.  It also depends on how they do the surgery.

reflux surgery is used to treat patients who suffer from gastroesophageal reflux disease. This disease results in heartburn, dysphagia (trouble swallowing), pain, and regurgitation. The reflux can lead to a variety of injuries to the esophagus. Both children and adults can experience gastroesophageal reflux disease, and it can cause considerable discomfort.
