Post waking up and can't inhale
Over the last couple of years I've awakened gasping for air and making a dreadful sound that often wakes up my entire family.  This lasts for approximately 1-2 mins followed by a lot of coughing.  I've been researching the problem and understand what's happening... I've stopped breathing in my sleep due to OSA.  I plan to go through the testing process in the near term and believe that I am a prime candidate for a CPAP.  However, here's my questions... if this happens again before I get a CPAP does anyone have any tips on how to get my breathing under control while gasping for air?

Thanks,
TinyElvis

Hi Tiny Elvis,

There are really no answers to your question, until such time as you get properly diagnosed.

See your GP and request a referral to a sleep doctor, agree to go on a cancellation list and push things along.

You may or may not have OSA, so its important to get the diagnosis first.

Kind regards,

Daniel.
