Post Staying awake while watching TV
I have had Sleep Apnea for at least two years now.
In the PM in the bedroom, trying to watch a show I seem to see maybe 10-15 minutes and then lights-out. Wife says that I am impossible to wake-up.
This never happens during the day or in the early evening. driving, work, daily chores never a problem.
PM television one minute everything just fine next second gone. Sleep time varies from minutes to two hours.
The wife and myself have apnea and she is very tolerant of this problem but has remarked about bee--ing all by herself alone.
Is there something I can do?

dutch, you don't metnion if your apnea is being treated?  Talking to your doctor should be your first step.

Hi Dutch,

I want to preface this by saying I'm making an assumption here-

If you use a CPAP and are falling asleep without it on, then that is your problem.  I do the same thing all of the time (bad Vicki).  Falling asleep without your CPAP is going to affect your body.  You become apneic and sleep deprived.  Therefore, the next day you are tired, try to watch TV and fall asleep again without your CPAP, it becomes a very vicious cycle because it continues to get worse.

The fix is to put on your mask and turn on your CPAP first, before you turn on the TV.  If you can't see the TV for the mask and it is important to you, get an interface that doesn't occlude your vision as much like nasal pillows or Resmed's Vista mask.  Wherever your TV is, put your CPAP there.  I put a TV in my bedroom so I can get my CPAP going and lay down.  After you get over your sleep deprivation, it should be easier to watch TV like a regular person and keep your wife company.

The bottom line, don't do that  Shame on you

Vicki

I have a cpap been through all the testing, doctors, and such. Have been on machine for about two years and wife six years. It seems strange to simply be watching a program like you would if  in the living room and I have done it there also. I put my head on the headreast of the bed for a moment and lights out. In the living room sitting next to the wife one moment everything is fine then lights out there too. The wife does not have this problem just me. Must I put on the cpap always or just when I notice that I am overtired?

Hi,

Have you had a recent test ? or been in contact with your sleep doctor ?

I think you should contact your doctor as you should not have these problems while using cpap. You may need a pressure adjustment.

Kind regards,

Daniel.
