Post Inconsistent AHI readings
Wednesday will conclude 4 weeks on CPAP.  I'm not having any real issues with masks or compliance or leaks.  I bought the Encore software a couple weeks ago and have been monitoring all my levels on a daily basis.  Granted I am fighting a sinus infection and taking antihistimines and have been on antibiotics for about 5 days.  My pressure was adusted from 12 to 13 because I was having fairly high AHIs after I got on CPAP.

At about the same time the pressure was increased, I started having bad allergy symptoms that caused me to get on antihistimines than my usual Zyrtec, so there wasn't that much change in my AHI readings probably resulting from my symptoms after the pressure change.  Readings have been in the range of 5-9 AHIs since the pressure adjustment.  What I find strange is the night I saw the ENT my AHI was down to 1, the next day 3, the following day 5, followed by 5 again, then 7, then 9, then 5.  I consistently have higher hypopneas than apneas.  The leak data is good.

Could my sinuses be playing a role in the inconsistent AHIs?  The ENT did find I had swelling in some glands in my neck, and after he gave me a shot (sorry not sure what) is when I had my lowest AHI since I was on CPAP.  I'm tempted to go back to the sleep doc again and show him the last adjustment didn't help much, but by the same token if this is the result of my sinus condition, I may wait a while.  Anyone go through something similar?

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if the shot wasn't a steroid such as prednisone. That reduces inflammation and swelling FAST!

It is very normal to have consistently higher hypopneas than apneas. You can think of hypopneas as apnea wannabees that the xPAP was able to stop before they became apneas.

Yes, it was a steroid according to the invoice.  So I guess that would have only provided temporary relief since he only prescribed a regimen of antibiotics and told me to stay on the Sudafed.  Well my AHI was 3 this morning, so perhaps this sinus condition is getting better.  Since I don't have any real symptoms on these antihistamines, it's hard to tell.  So I guess a bad sinus condition can knock your xPAP therapy for a loop?
