pimple in nasal cavity....OUCH....

Postby artemis » Mon May 19, 2008 6:14 pm

After using the Mirage Swift II Nasal Pillow System during my titration on May 10th, I developed a pimple inside my nasal cavity. This weekend it really has flared up and now my lip is swollen. I saw the doctor today and he prescribed some antibiotics. It's very sensitive around the lower nose region.

Has anyone had problems using the nasal pillow system and getting pimples? I am still waiting for my Rx from my doctor so that I can pick up a CPAP. Should I consider another type of face/nose mask for my treatment. I really liked the nasal pillow for comfort while sleeping. But would hate to have regular pimple attacks...

Cheers and thanks!

Art...Yes, I have the same mask...try to not have it so tight....the pillows are to sit on the outside of the nostril. I ue a little KY when I get a sore spot. In addition, your nose should toughen up to it.

Oh yeah! I get them a lot. Mine are ingrown hairs. I find that I use Blistex a lot, but I have a bunch of different stuff in the nightstand; Ary Gel, Astro-Glide, Neosporin, etc...

Well, my pimple after a week turned into a staph infection. Even my lip was swollen and looked like I had Angelina Jolie lips. I was worried I got the staph infection from the sleep study facilty. I don't think I got it there. I think I irritated the pimple and it got infected. From what I understand, 30 to 40% of people carry staph bacteria which can reside in their nasal cavity and other areas of the body. After 10 days of antibiotics and shots, I am happy to say the swelling is gone. Whew....

Don't be too quick on ruling out the mask at the titration. Yes, we all do have staff on us....but something needed to *kick* it into high gear. I have heard of people coming out of their titration with terrible lung infections...due to improprly clean equipment. Not to be a scare...but nothing should be dismissed

Ok, I won't be took quick to rule out the mask at titration. I was scared that I contracted the infection at the sleep study. What have others done after getting sick from a sleep study facility? I have heard that some sleep study facilities re-use their masks.

I actually joined this forum looking for solutions about nose pimples. I get these all the time with the Swift II. I'll try loosening up the headgear.

I have the Swift II as well, and I'm still working out a comfortable setting. I've had it for a week. The larger pillows are more comfy, but I have leaks with them. I actually like the mask, but I need to get the correct settings. I also have nasal discomfort, but it's gone away pretty quickly in the AM.

Have you tried a neti pot or nasal irrigation with warm saline? It will cleanse the sinus cavities of contaminants, allergens, mucus, and bacteria.

MRSA

Postby mick11 » Tue Sep 02, 2008 3:56 pm

Well the pimples continued and i had a real bad one that developed. Went to the doctor and he ended up sending me to a specialist. They took a culture and I was diagnosed with MRSA. I was on 4 different antibiotics for a week. Pimples have stopped about three weeks now.

Something to have checked if teh pimples continue.

I still get the pimples occasionally and as soon as I feel them develop, I wash real good and add some neosporin to the area. Sometimes I forget to wash the nasal pillows and I wonder if that may be the problem. Yah, I know...I should clean the pillows daily... I wonder though, if the pillows rub the tiny hairs in the nasal cavity do they cause ingrown hairs...just a thought.

Hey there, after using the pillows for 6 nights, I developed these sore like raw places in each nostril. My nose just felt raw. I am now trying a mask.

I have had the pimple inside the nose 3 or 4 times (in 15 years). The last time (2 years ago) was so painful I bought a mask to use until the pimple cleared up. Masks don't work for me, they all get too oily and lose the seal after 4 or 5 hours. That last pimple left me with a painful scar, so I now have to load up that nostril with Secarus or Rhinaris gel every night. Even though the gel dries out, if I use enough of it it leaves a slimy residue that continues to lubricate the spot all night. If I don't use enough then I wake up from a stabbing pain at the scar.
