Vicki, My neoro tried me on lamictal, and when I got up to 50 mg. I thought I had a seizure or two. I woke up one morning in the middle of a seizure dream, but it could have been a sleep apnea event , my apnea wasn't under control very well at the time. Now that the effexor is gone, I may be open to trying at is a replacement to the dilantin, since I can kill two birds with one stone. Virginia
I take lamictal. Hopefully I will get of this one too in the near future.

Short bus, Lamictal is a mood stabilizer, if you are bi-polar and it is keeping you stable, then don't worry about getting off of it that quickly. It doesn't have the side effects that the anti-depressants do, the rash is the main thing to look for , and that almost always happens at the beginning of therapy. Virginia

Hi everybody. I visited with my new neorologist today. I think the visit went pretty well. I didn't have much of a nap today, and my appointment was at 4:15, so I was ready for the show. I really showed off my ability to put one foot in front of another, and walk a straight line. If this had been a field sobriety test, I'd be in jail now. He did a very thourough history and exam and we talked about options. We are going to try and stop the dilantin and start lamictal, hopefully that will take care of the eds problem. I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks, so I'll start the switch over when I come back. He says I have to be on some type of anti-convulsant, given my history, hopefully lamictal will work for me. Virginia

Checking in, so far, so good. I've cut down the dilantin to 100 mg twice a day, and the eds is almost gone. I've had some problems sleeping because I'm not as sedated as much as before, so I really need to watch the leaks. My machine compensates pretty well for leaks, my ahi is staying around 2, but the leaks keep me awake. The bad news is that I was correct in my guess that the dilantin was working as a mood stablilizer for me, I am getting all weepy all of the time again. Two more weeks until I am on 100 mg of lamictal and off of the dilantin, I'm hoping the mood swings won't get much worse. So far no seizures so thats good. And Haku, I've lived in your neighborhood for a year or so, it's not really such a good place to stay, so take care of yourself . Sleep well, eat right , and get plenty of sunshine and exercize. and take your meds if you need them. God bless, Virginia
