 ResMed Mirage Liberty mask
I have been using this mask for almost three weeks, took some playing around but I finally have it fitting great. And find it very comfortable , .
The only problem I have is the quick-disconnect/elbow has cracked just below the hose. My DME has had a few comeback with the same issue, I am wondering has anyone else had this problem?

 mirage lierty
I just tried a liberty. I have not had a problem with the elbow. I loved the mask when i go to bed, but in the middle the night at some point the nasal pillows become dislodged. They make lot of noise and wake me and my wife up. I went back to using my ultra mirage ff. Any suggestions because I do like being able to wear glasses and read before going to sleep with my CPAP on.

 Mirage Liberty fit
Jeff,
I tried the different nasal pillows, I use a smaller size then I do with other masks, did you have the different sizes to try?
Don't give up, with trying different masks.

I have a Hybrid mask with the nasal pillows. I always had problems with the pillows leaking badly and improvised a solution with simple rubber bands. Take two rubber bands, One small enough that you can just loop it around the pillow twice, just under the part that touches your nose. Attach another longer band to that one. Do this for both pillows. Then I pull the long bands up and attach them to my adjustable top head strap. The tension on the pillows will keep them in place no matter what you do at night. I put a folded up tissue between the bands and my forehead to prevent marks. It sounds simple, because it really is and it does work. You may have to try different size bands to get the proper tension, but it will work.

 Mirage Liberty mask
I received an email from RESmed, they have redesigned the frame somehow and are sending me a new one??
We will see if it fixes my problem with the elbow cracking. I will let you know when it shows up.

 *Exactly* the same problem...
I have had *exactly* the same problem with the thin plastic breaking on the bottom section of the elbow. In fact, it happened for the second time last night and I am now waiting for UPS to deliver a replacement elbow. How did you get ResMed to give you the redesigned mask? Who did you call/email?
As for the nasal pillows leaking during the night, I have had this problem too. I ended up using a 4-5" length of sports tape (sticker and cheaper than medical tape) over the entire nasal pillow stem and the lower part of my nose.

 Answer my own question
I spoke with my Home Care Provider and they were very little help regarding a solution or fix from preventing the breakage again. They were nice enough to send me a replacement via UPS.
I also called ResMed and spoke with a customer service rep. about the issue. He said that the elbow has been redesigned and he would send me two replacements via 3-day FedEx. To identify a new elbow from an old one, count the finger ridges on the sides of the elbow.
3 ridges = old design
4 ridges = new design
Apparently the head gear has been redesigned so it does not become unclipped as easy. ResMed is sending me that too. :)

Nice job,
Yea, I just emailed my concern and a few days later had a response. I knew I was not the only one out there with this problem.
Let me know how the new elbow works, I am still waiting for mine.
The part they sent was not the same as we were discussing I had to clarify it for them.

yep same problem here..i have broken 3 of those..My DME supposedly gave me the redesigned one and i broke that too..i love the mask and really don't want to change...i just keep breaking it..it does not seem that it is made strong enough in some of themost important places..
i have also broken the clips on the mask frame where the headgear attaches..the top ones that have the plastic band on it..those break super easy..
looks like i will be calling up Resmed to see if they will send me some replacement parts!

 Broke another elbow
This is a redesigned one, I am not sure what happened but two nights ago, it went flying off of my mask, and woke me up to the sound of air blowing out of the hose, after a few seconds I realized what had happened and did my little rubberband fix. The elbow can not do a full 360 swivel but it stays on.
Someday ResMed will get it right I am sure.

 ResMed are you out there?
I have broke another elbow, WHAT is so hard about designing an elbow that will not break.
I love the mask, but I can not go through three elbows a month.
Does anyone have any ideas?

i feel your pain..i am in the exact same position..i have broken 4 elbows in 6 months and 4 mask frames in 6 months..I hate to have to call me DME and tell them I broke it again..they have been super cool about replacing broken parts..but how long will that last?? The last time I talked to my RT the other day (awaiting my shipment of replacement parts) she said that maybe this was not the mask for me..and i told her..NO..THIS IS THE MASK FOR ME...IT IS JUST DESIGNED WITH FLAWS THAT MAKE IT PRONE TO BREAKING IN THE MOST IMPORTANT PLACES!!!! Luckily my insurance pays for my setup 100%..not sure what I would do if I had to pay out of pocket for all the stuff i broke..
hopefully ResMed gets a clue and starts making these masks with plastics that are thick and strong in the places that matter..

Please don't flame me... just another opinion
I also attempted to use the Liberty. Although I didn't have the problems with breakage, it is a way over the top over engineered device with way too many parts - and the cleaning proceedure is an absolute joke.
The nasal pillow design: What's with the pillow within a pillow? Just another gimick to make you think they've got it all figured out?
The quick connect (that keeps breaking): Novel, but why?
The Flapper that is to be removed when cleaning: What?
This mask blows, literally.
Oh wait, the head gear clips: Do I really need to say they're the cheapest part of the Liberty?
The lack of being supplied with several mouth and nasal sizes so you can fit yourself: Not with the LIberty.
The only thing this over engineered cheaply built mask has over the Hybrid is the exhaust ports that blow away and to the sides instead of straight out like the Hybrid - that's it!
I'm not trying to "sell people" on the Hybrid, it's just the only other game in town if you want a FFM with pillows.

 RE:Please don't flame me...just another opinion
Snorke,
I have not tried the Hybrid, but maybe it is time... I don't know why you were worried you would be "punished"/flamed for viewing your opinion. I appreciate the comments.
I don't feel the cleaning is that bad, I like the way the double pillow system works.
The head gear, has worked great, no problems there, I think there are two types out in the system but I do not know how you would tell the difference.
To each there own I guess, I really wish it was built better, I like the fit.

I also liked the fit, at first. I just could not understand how something so engineered was such a complete failure.
Flaming? Some people are loyal to a fault.
