Post Wasted titration study
Hey everyone,

Just as I thought, my results were worthless due to the fact that I really did not sleep.  I go to see the doctor on Monday to see what is next.  I DO  NOT want another sleep study!!!!  I am hoping that I can do it from home.  Is that a common option?

Sweet dreams to all.

I'm talking out my rear-end because I've never touched a CPAP machine, but I think I heard somewhere that there are machines that can automatically adjust without a titration study.  See my posts and laugh at how I blew my sleep study.  Sorry no one else has posted to help you.

Post Thank you
Thanks The Man, I did see your post about your sleep study and yes I did laugh.  I actually went to my doctor yesterday and he ordered my auto cpap along with ambien to knock my butt out.  He also ordered blood tests for narcolepsy.  He said that in my day time study I did fall asleep quickly but did not have any REM but sometimes people with narc have an antibody or tissue in their blood so we are going to rule that out too.  Thanks again for the reply, I have not had much luck in this forum so I will probably look for another.  Good luck and sweet dreams!

Michelle

Michelle, if you are still around, I "failed" my first titration study. I only slept 42 minutes out of 6 hours of bedtime. My insurnace requires a minimum of 2 hours sleep time out of 6 hours bedtime on CPAP to qualify for reimbursement of CPAP. So I had to go back in for a second titration at which I only slept 98 minutes out of 6 hours bed time. BUT the combined slightly over 2 hours sleep did qualify me for CPAP reimbursement by my insurance.

Another option might be if your doctor would script a two week or one month loaner of an autoPAP to auto-titrate your pressure needs at home. The problem w/this method is the difficulty in finding a CPAP mask that is comfortable and pretty much leak free plus MOST people need a heated humidifier or at the very least passover humidifier in order to comfortably tolerate CPAP air pressure. And those two items must be purchased outright unless the sleep lab is willing and able to loan them to you because most local DME suppliers won't. Still it is an option.

After 30 days on CPAP at a pressure of 6 cms, I had to tell my sleep doctor that CPAP just really wasn't doing much for me, so due to the lack of sleep during my two titration studies and the data from my first month on CPAP he raised my pressure to 7 cms. That improved my data somewhat but I still wasn't sleeping all that good so he ordered a two week loaner of an autoPAP for me and the data indicated a raise to 8 cms of pressure. THAT helped a lot. But still not enough. So at 4 months he ordered an overnight oximetry for me. That indicated that I needed 02 supplementation in addition to the CPAP. With the addition of 2L of 02 I had definite improvement.

However, I still wasn't sleeping as well as I thought I should be and whilst my data looked pretty good it wasn't ideal by any means so I was brought in for a bi-level titration and ended up on a bi-level w/an IPAP of 13 cms and EPAP of 8 cms. I'm doing MUCH better w/the bi-level and my average pressure has been running about 10.8

Hello Michelle,

I'll start right off by saying I was a little surprised to read this... certainly this forum is not for everybody Smile  and I do wish you the best of luck in finding what works for you.  But generally this forum is very helpful and friendly so I wanted to look into your situation further.

I have reviewed your posting history and to me it seems you haven't asked very many specific questions.  You have received friendly and helpful answers to the questions you *have* asked, though, but mostly you have just shared your experiences.  Nothing wrong with that at all!  That's what this forum is for.  But it may not yield you very many responses, or very many that are meant to be helpful to you.

If you have questions, please read the "Sticky" posts at the top of each of the forums.  These are filled with a wealth of  information, explanations of sleep study terms, what to expect from CPAP, and so on.  Also try the Search function in the forum bar across the middle-top of the page, or the 'google style' search in the upper right.  Any questions you have, have likely been asked and answered many times here and you'll have a lot of reading at your disposal Smile

And of course, if you don't find what you're looking for, then by all means please post questions.  I'm sure someone will come along that can answer or point you in the right direction for an answer.

Please let us know if we can be of any help.  Best of luck to you, Blessings,
