I have been diagnoses with sleep apnea after having had a sleep study done. The study was titrated and included a CPAP. I have heart disease having had a heart attack and 2 open heart surgeries. The question I have is: apnea a secondary condition to coronary artery disease?

Unfortunately, it is the other way around.  CAD is secondary to Obstructive Sleep Apnea.  In the long term, untreated OSA increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.  Prolonged hypoxia, increased blood pressure and other effects due to apneic events take a toll on the cardiovascular system.  You should be very glad you are being treated!!

One other thing, you will find that compliant use of cpap will help lessen the risk of further heart attacks.

daniel, i sure hope the risk of heart failure decreases, i love my machine it helped me get though major surgery two weeks ago. all my vitals had improved with one month on cpap before surgery.  i am looking forward to a much longer productive life now.  by the way it is so cool to talk to someone around the world like this. im an old moss back lo tech guy.  best  dave
