Post Help with sleep study of 16 yr old
My 16 year old son had a sleep study / mslt done in Nov. 07.  Diagnosed with mild/severe sleep apnea.  T&A removed in December.  He is scheduled to have another sleep study & possibly a mslt in march.  MSLT depends on results of sleep study.  If more that 5 hypopneas he won't need MSLT.  Testing very expensive, don't know which to hope for.  His first study found that his sleep eff. was 93%  he had 12 apneas-4 obstructive,  longest 21 sec. 8 central.  125 hypopneas-longest 69 sec.    --AHI of 18 ph his oxegen was a mean of 97% but dropping to 84%.   I really don't understand much of this.  But have been to different dr.s . One says it is a mild case the other says very severe.  Is this because he is still considered a child that Pediatic Neurologiist would say very severe?   Which is it?  mild/severe/very severe?   What are the chances of after having T&A removed his apnea will be less severe?   Any help appreciated!!  :)

The standard rule of thumb seems to be 10-20 = Light, 20-30 = Moderate, 30+ = Severe.

The thing to realize is that no matter which word you choose to call it, ANY is bad and is damaging his internal organs nightly.

It is just various "degrees of badness".
