Post initial study vs. titration...
Initial Study    CPAP Titration (set at 10 cm/h2o)

Date:          07Jul05        27Sep05

Start:          10:12 PM        9:23PM
End:          5:01AM        4:53AM

Test Total:        6hr 49.5min    7hr 30min

Sleep total:    5hr 3min        6hr 36.5min
Sleep Latency:    65min        14min

REM Latency:    214.5min        77.5min
Sleep Efficiency:    74.0%        88.1%
Wake:        26.0%        11.9%
Stage I:        19.6%        10.8%
Stage II:        66.0%        79.4%
Stage III:        0.0%        0.3%
Stage IV:        0.0%        0.0%
REM:        14.4%        9.5%

Arousal Total:    148        179 (?)
Snore Arousal:    14        3
LM Arousal:    40        18
PLMS Index:    14.1        2.4

Apnea Total:    88        6
   Obstructive:    88        5
   Central:        0        0
   Mixed:        0        1

Hypopnea Total:    38        3

Baseline O2:    97%        98%
Minimum O2:    91%        93%

Event Total:    126        9

Clearly the CPAP makes a difference for me...arousal total on the titration MUST be a typo.  I do not quite understand the Sleep Stages (like why NO III/IV and less REM with CPAP?) any feedback would be welcomed.

Post Sleep Results
Hi bdsintx6:

SWS (Stage 3/4) ususally decreases as a function of age.

Check out the 179 arousal number to see what it's supposed to be, if it is in fact a typo.  That could go a long way in explaining a couple of things, including the low SWS and REM.  Get the total arousal breakdown.

Any medications?

Where'd all the PLMs go?  You had 14 per hour on the initial study, and now they're down to 2.  They usually get worse with CPAP, unless they weren't really PLMs to begin with.  Check on that.

I will try to get more details from them.

Stage 3/4 decreases with age...i am 38 now but felt i haven thad quality sleep in YEARS

during the titration test  i was on meds...Flexeril and Darvocet for nagging back problems, never thought that would affect the study, but the meds do tend to knock me out.

Thanks.

Post SWS and REM
Hi bdsintx6:

At 38, you should still be having the better part of 20% of the night in SWS and about the same % of REM.

Flexceril is chemically similar to a known class of REM suppressants, supposed to improve sleep quality, especially in FBM, and generate "EEG alterations" all at the same time, so the heck if I know what the net result is.  Perhaps the additional info will shed some light.

How much pain do you have, does that bother your sleep?  Maybe we're reading too much into this, the forest/trees thing.

Try to get the sleep architecture graph while you're there.
