I spoke with Barb earlier today. She is fine ! Her voice was strong and her inflections were most definitely upbeat and enthused.
She is sore she said... had the lapro type operation as opposed to the traditional abdominal surgery. She was in the OR for 2 1/2- 3 hours and is expecting to be home by this Sunday.
No, she won't be in her bikini by then but watch out 2008 ! !
Her journey begins ~

Hey guys- I came home Saturday afternoon but SLEPT and SLEPT!!!!! Being a good girl I used my CPAP Thurs night but woke up Friday morning feeling HORRIBLE and BLOATED!!!!! Well, my PCP came to visit me(personally) and I said I think my CPAP pushed a TON of air into me and thats why I felt so BAAAD! He agreed so we decided not to use my CPAP first week-I do feel better but want to strap the mask back on so I'm not tossing and turning all night.

Barb, you were one of the very first people to welcome me here. I wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery. Let us know how you're doing when you're up to it.

Actually I'm feeling great. Thurs. night to midafternoon Friday was HORRIBLE!!!! I felt like telling someone just to back up the Morphine truck and keep it coming!!!! But since I'm the girl who "lives by the rules" I walked, walked, walked and I felt great and still do. I'm scared and not going to try to use my CPAP til Wednesday night- I don't suggest foregoing CPAP EVER but I'm off work for next 2 weeks and think my tummy will feel better without the bloating caused by my CPAP. Not much weight loss as of yet but we'll see when I go to surgeon and get weighed in on Weds. Thank you for all of the support from my ASAA friends. XOXOXOXO Barb

Barb,
In case you didn't see my relpy to yor post in my thread above..I'm glad you are home and doing well!! Us two gimps can commiserate with each other!! Are you taking any pain meds? I was needing Norco but it was really making me sick to my stomach. Thsnkfully, Darvocet seems to be working well enough so that I can get by with that alone.
You are only taking two weeks off? I don't know recovery times, but that seems a little short? Do you feel like you will be ready to work by then? Are you keeping a "before and after" picture journal?
Fellow Post-op Gimp Vicki

Actually I haven't had to crack open the liquid Lortab bottle yet. I'm seeing Dr. Teng on Weds. to take out my drain so I'll definitely take my Lortab before the visit. Ron couldn't understand the before/after pic thing so 1 of my fellow RNs took a front shot and a couple of side views at work. Yes ,for time off I was only going to take 10 days and Ron convinced me to take a full 2 weeks(financially will be tight but somehow as always we'll find a way!). So with my work schedule my first day back will be 12/23 just in time to work Christmas.

Laporscopic surgery makes a BIG difference in healing time than open surgery. I'm thankful that mine was successful laporscopically.
