Post Humidifier boxes-distilled water
I have a question about the water for the humidfier box (not sure what it is called).  Does anyone know why it has to be distilled?  And how often do you change the water?  My respiratory therapist said to do so every day, but I saw a post a month ago or so in which someone asked if the distilled water should be refrigerated since it lasts a month.  My gallon bottle lasts less than a week.  I do live in a hot climate (Arizona) so maybe that's why, but I'd like to know other people's experiences.

I use distilled water off the shelf from the grocery store, and all except the first gallon lasts 3-4 weeks with the Remstar Plus and heated humidifier as supplied.  After the first few nights I was able to guage the amount of water required per night, and I pour out only a few drops every morning.  I don't know why I worry about it because the water only costs $0.69.

I don't refrigerate it, I have no discoloration of the tank, and I have seen no indications of mold or scale in the tubing.

You should definetly use distilled water.  With my old CPAP, I got lazy, and started using tap water.  Then I noticed some small buildup on the bottom of the humidifier, and after trying to scrape it off unsuccessfully, I realized why you're supposed to use distilled water.  (Another factor might be that I didn't clean/take care of my CPAP very often Sad )
