How long should you have to wait for sleep study results?
I'm just curious about how long most people have to wait for their sleep study test results; I was originally told 2-3 weeks, and after 3 1/2 I called the doc. Apparently, they are using a different lab, and evaluations are running much longer than normal. My sleep study was done on September 7th, and I am feeling anxious and rather angry that I still don't have any answers. It was a six-week wait just to see the sleep doc, then close to a month before my sleep test (could have been longer if not for a "lucky" cancellation), and now more than five weeks past my sleep test...it feels like an eternity. Anyway, any suggestions/info?

yawninmom - i've been really fortunate...my first study was around christmas and i got the results in about a week...for the study i just had, my doc called me 2 days after the test...
you might want to consider getting the referring doc to call for you...i did that with my neurologist and it seemed to speed things up a bit...
good luck! winstonpepper

Hi yawninmom,
I think you should start agitating a little. Call the lab, tell them how it is and liaise with the sleep doc to ensure a fast delivery of results. To read these results is no big deal ( to the trained eye) as the computer produces them in readable format.

As Daniel said, sleep labs usually have the results ready for the doctor to interpet immediately following the study. Any good sleep doc. will schedule you for a followup one week after the study and then within a month after you begin therapy to see how it is going.

 hi
My daughter just had a sleep study done, well really over 3 wks. ago. They asked me to schedule her appointment to get the results 3 wks after the sleep study. We went today. So in our one time experience, it took 3 wks.
Good luck. I hope you get answers and get them soon.

Well, it took me 10 days for results.
The strange thing is that I have 3 doctors for different reasons (Family physician who ordered the test, allergy dr. , and asthma dr.
I was fine until this past Nov. when I got severe pneumonia.
Not one of the doctors told me the results...I got them from the Medical Supply place that is affiliated with the hospital where I had the test done!
I'm still very upset that not one of these guys (especially the physician who ordered the test) did not sit me down and explain it.
Luckily I had an intelligent woman who set up my equipment. She even made me a copy. so that I could analyze my own results.
At least it was preset according to the orders of another doctor who overlooked my sleep study.
Ridiculous! I think one doctor thought the other one must have told me.
I've been using the CPAP for about 3 weeks or so. I'm sure it stopped my snoring at night, and I'm waking up less often. However, I still feel pretty sleepy during the day. Is this normal? Will it take a while before I get used to oxygen actually reaching my vital organs?

Re: How long should you have to wait for sleep study results
I have had to wait anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks for the results of both my sleep studies (tommorow I get results from the second one) but that delay is because my sleep doc is backlogged for appointments, nothing to do with the lab.
my doc explains the results on a general basis, i plan on asking for copies of complete results of both test. she prefers i use the CPAP at least 30 days (after any changes to set up/pressure/etc.) before any follow up appointment
