Well, you had me going down memory lane as well. My first experience with any sort of online discussion board was at another board, many months before this one was created. Because you were discussing it, I went back there and looked for my first post. It was my very first post, as a guest, before I decided to register as a member. I'd forgotten what I had said, so it felt odd reading this:

I'm only now finding this web site and reading some of the discussions.
Last nite I had my first sleep lab test. I haven't yet gotten back with the doctor for results and treatment, but the technician says I have this apnea thing. So my curiousity got me here. These discussions seem encouraging yet scary.
If my boss catches me asleep one more time, I'm gone. It took two doctors to convince me to be tested for sleep apnea. I knew little about it. It seemed like a silly disorder and not a "real" medical condition. It wasn't until the job threat and my doctor saying my oxygen level was dangerously low that I took it seriously. Now I'm all nerves, but glad to see your discussion site. All your advice seems helpful. Thanks.
Linda
Looking back, it wasn't exactly that I didn't take it seriously, but I didn't understand any of it, certainly didn't know what this was and its affect on the body. The first doctor merely mentioned it and referred me to a sleep doc. I thought my heart was dying (waking up at nite finding my heart racing) so instead I went to a Cardiologist first. He found nothing wrong (I had imagined all sorts of things, I was convinced I was dying --- turned out I was right, but it was from this sleep apnea I knew nothing about). I told the Cardiologist that my primary care doc had mentioned something called sleep apnea. He said oh yes, that is a real condition, you should have it checked out. Finally I was convinced enough to go to a sleep doc, but even then I knew next to nothing about it. My sleep doc wasn't so helpful in explaining (but then again, I was in a brain fog, couldn't remember a thing he said), so it was all such a shock when I had my split nite study. What, a mask??? The very next day I went online. I was amazed to find out about it and that I wasn't alone.
